SMS lets an Agent send and receive text messages through a Nexor phone number. The same number may also handle Voice, but the two channel assignments and their ready states are independent.
A US long-code number cannot send application-to-person messages until its A2P 10DLC registration is approved and active. Requesting SMS does not mean the number is ready.

Check availability first

The dashboard shows SMS by default for workspaces set to the United States or Canada. Nexor Support can also confirm whether it can be enabled for another workspace when a messaging-capable number is available. Actual availability depends on the current number inventory and the messaging capability of the selected number. If SMS or a suitable number does not appear, contact Nexor Support. Do not use a fixed country list from an older document as an availability promise.

Provision and assign an SMS number

SMS uses the number inventory under the Phone number integration. There is no separate SMS integration card.
1

Open the Phone number integration

Go to Integrations → Phone number. If the workspace has no suitable number, choose Add number and select from the live inventory. Provisioning attempts to prepare the number for SMS when its messaging capability allows it.
2

Wait for readiness when required

A US long-code number must finish 10DLC registration before it can be assigned as a ready SMS sender. A Canadian number follows a different setup and does not enter the US 10DLC registration flow.
3

Assign SMS to the Agent

Go to Agents → your Agent → Settings → Channels. Select Add channel → SMS, then choose an available number. Only numbers currently ready for SMS appear as assignable choices.
4

Confirm the channel

Make sure the SMS row shows the selected number. If SMS appears but no number is offered, contact Nexor Support to check the number’s messaging capability or US registration.
Voice and SMS can use the same phone number without sharing their channel state. Choosing Stop using for SMS in one Agent does not remove that Agent’s Voice assignment, and stopping Voice does not remove SMS.

Understand US 10DLC readiness

A2P 10DLC is the registration used for business application-to-person traffic from a US 10-digit long-code number. Nexor requests registration for a US number that is being prepared for SMS, then keeps sending disabled until the campaign is verified and the number is attached to the active program. The current customer dashboard does not provide a registration page with the live status, required-item checklist, or failure reason. Contact Nexor Support when a US number does not become assignable. Registration timing and approval cannot be controlled from the Agent settings, so this guide does not promise a turnaround time or approval.
Canadian numbers do not use the US 10DLC registration flow. They still use the +1 numbering plan, so the +1-to-+1 consent and STOP protections described below still apply.
For a message from a +1 sender to a +1 recipient, Nexor requires a current SMS consent record for the recipient’s exact phone number. A note on the lead is not the consent record checked by the send path. Nexor also blocks the send when the lead is marked do-not-contact, unsubscribed, unreachable, or opted out of SMS. If the lead’s phone number changes, record consent for the new number before sending. Your consent language and evidence must satisfy the laws and program rules that apply to your use case. See US outreach rules for the required disclosure and evidence.

How STOP and re-entry work

For the first outbound message in a +1-to-+1 conversation, Nexor adds a STOP instruction in the Agent’s configured language. It is not always English. The following replies revoke SMS consent immediately:
  • STOP
  • STOPALL
  • UNSUBSCRIBE
  • CANCEL
  • END
  • QUIT
After an opt-out, START, YES, or UNSTOP from the subscriber can grant consent again. When the lead is not currently opted out, a reply such as YES remains an ordinary conversation reply instead of being swallowed as a subscription command. Control keywords are handled before the sales Agent receives the message. Do not ask the Agent to override an opt-out.

What happens on inbound SMS

When an inbound message reaches a number assigned to an Agent:
  • Nexor matches the sender to an existing lead.
  • If no lead exists, Nexor can create one when the SMS number has an Agent assignment.
  • A normal inbound reply stops the proactive cadence for that lead.
  • The Agent can answer when SMS remains active for the assigned Agent.
  • STOP and related control keywords are handled as consent actions instead of ordinary Agent messages.

Keep SMS content simple

The SMS Agent is instructed to use plain text, avoid emojis, and keep replies short. The 160-character target is a writing guideline, not one universal hard product limit for every message. SMS does not send files as native multimedia messages. When the Agent sends an available file, Nexor adds a public link to the text so the recipient can open it.
The current SMS send path is not a complete legal calendar. Do not assume that it automatically applies every state-specific quiet-hour rule or a universal contact-frequency limit. Configure your Agent’s contact schedule and campaign limits for the recipients you contact.

Test real and simulated SMS

1

Open the Playground

Go to Agents → your Agent → Playground and review the available channel choices.
2

Read the option name

SMS uses real external delivery when the Agent has a ready SMS number. Recipient-specific consent and send checks still apply. Simulate SMS keeps the test inside Nexor and sends nothing to a phone.
3

Use a controlled destination

For a real test, enter a phone number you control and confirm that it has the required consent record.
4

Test opt-out behavior

Verify normal replies with a test number. If you test STOP, remember that it creates a real opt-out for that phone and you must use a valid subscriber re-entry before another compliant send.
If neither SMS nor Simulate SMS is available, finish the Agent’s channel setup and reopen the Playground. See Test in the Playground for the general test workflow.

Troubleshoot SMS

SMS appears by default for US and Canadian workspaces. For another workspace, contact Nexor Support to confirm account availability and a compatible number.
The workspace may have a Voice number that is not ready for messaging. For a US number, registration may still be pending or may need attention. The dashboard does not currently show the registration checklist or detailed state, so contact Nexor Support.
Do not send again until the subscriber provides a valid new opt-in. Reuploading or editing the lead does not cancel the recorded opt-out by itself.
Confirm that the number is assigned to this Agent and that SMS is active. A recognized control keyword is intentionally handled without a conversational Agent reply.
