# Update topic transfer rules

> Replace the topics that make the AI transfer an agent's calls to a number, up to 5 rules. Requires confirm: true.

Read the current rules with [Get topic transfer rules](https://docs.getnexor.ai/docs/en/api/inbound-router/get-transfer-rules.md) first, and send the full list back with `"confirm": true`. MCP keys need `numbers:write`.

## Replace the rules

```json theme={null}
{
  "rules": [
    {
      "key": "sales",
      "topic": "Prices, plans or quotes",
      "number": "+56912345678",
      "say": "I'll connect you with our sales team."
    }
  ],
  "confirm": true
}
```

* The list replaces every rule the agent had. Send each rule you want to keep. `"rules": []` removes them all.
* `key` identifies the rule: a lowercase letter, then lowercase letters, digits or `_`, up to 24 characters. Each `key` appears once.
* `topic` is up to 300 characters. Describe it the way a caller would ask about it.
* `number` needs `+` and the country code. It cannot be one of the agent's own numbers, or the response is 400 `group_transfer_rules_self_transfer`.
* `say` is up to 200 characters, in the agent's language.

Rules apply whenever the AI is on the call, during business hours and after hours, and to every task of the agent.

## After saving

The response comes back with `status: "pending"`. Calls pick up the change within a minute or two; read back until `status` is `ready`. A `pending` or `error` status is not active yet. A 409 `group_transfer_rules_busy` means another change to this agent's calls is being saved. Try again shortly.

Responses to these writes include `saved_in_agent_draft`. It is `false` when the change was applied to the live agent (every customer API key and MCP key). It is `true` only when NexorGPT saved the change to the agent's draft; that change reaches calls when the draft is published.
